The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is an extremely honourable and praiseworthy personality. In fact, he صلى الله عليه وسلم is the most honourable  and praiseworthy among all the creations of Allah Almighty.

He صلى الله عليه وسلم is the one due to whom this universe was created.

Due to his صلى الله عليه وسلم good fortune humanity was blessed with wisdom. Regarding him صلى الله عليه وسلم Almighty Allah states, “If I had not intended to create thee (oh Holy Prophet) I would not have created the world”.

He صلى الله عليه وسلم is the one whom Allah Almighty blessed with the crown of  وَ رَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ (I (Almighty Allah) exalted your (the Holy Prophet) name).

He صلى الله عليه وسلم is the one who attained the titles of ‘truthful’ and ‘honest’ even before the divine mission.

He صلى الله عليه وسلم is the one on whom Almighty Allah HIMSELF and the angels send ‘Darud’ (blessings).

He صلى الله عليه وسلم is the one whose Ummat (followers) have been called Khair-ul-Ummam (best race).

Hence, it comes as no surprise that people, both during his صلى الله عليه وسلم blessed life as well as after his صلى الله عليه وسلم departure from this world, have composed lines of poetry in his praise and love.

“The poet of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم”

Hassan ibn Thabit رضي الله عنه was the blessed companion bestowed with the blessed title of being “the poet of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم”, as he would reply in poetry to the slander of the polytheists in defence of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم prayed Allah Almighty to strengthen him with Jibraeel عليه السلام. The poems composed by him رضي الله عنه would please both the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم as well as the blessed companions رضي الله عنهم.

Perhaps his most famous lines are the ones recited in praise of the blessed appearance of the Holy Prophet

Better than you no eye has ever seen

More beautiful than you no woman has given birth to

You have been crafted free from any defect

As if you were created like how you desired

Some more lines beautifully expressing the love of the blessed companion رضي الله عنه for the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

When I saw his light shining forth,
In fear I covered my eyes with my palms,

Afraid for my sight because of the beauty of his form.
So I was scarcely able to look at him at all.

The lights from his light are drowned in his light
and his face shines out like the sun and moon in one.

A spirit of light lodged in a body like a moon,
a mantle made up of brilliant shining stars.

I bore it until I could bear it no longer.
I found the taste of patience to be like bitter aloes.

I could find no remedy to bring me relief
other than delighting in the sight of the one I love.

Even if he had not brought any clear signs with him,
the sight of him would dispense with the need for them.

Muhammad is a human being but not like other human beings.
Rather he is a flawless diamond and the rest of mankind is just stones.

Blessings be on him so that perhaps Allah may have mercy on us
on that burning Day when the Fire is roaring forth its sparks.

Finally, regarding his own poetry Hassan ibn Thabit رضي الله عنه splendidly declared:

وَ مَا مَدَحْتُ مُحَمَّدًا بِمَقَالَتِيْ

وَ لَكِنْ مَدَحْتُ مَقَالَتِيْ بِمُحَمَّدٍ

I could not praise Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم with my words

rather, my words were made praiseworthy by Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم
