What can I tell you regarding the Prophet of Allah Ibrahim Alayhi as-Salam? He is the leader of the prophets and lovers and their role model chosen by Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala. Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala Himself testifies his truthfulness.

He is Khalil Ullah and to confer upon him this title Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala did his training through different trials which he passed with distinction.

And when his Lord put Ibrahim to a test with certain Words! And he fulfilled them. He said, “I am going to make you an Imam for the people.” He said, “And from among my progeny?” He replied, my promise does not extend to the unjust.” Al-Baqarah: 124

Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala adorned every aspect of his life to exemplify his character, even endorsed him as a role model for us and for Prophet ﷺ who himself is a role model for the entire humanity.

Indeed, there is an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, Al- Mumtahina:4

As a seeker of Allah his quest for truth speaks of his wisdom, deep reflection and cognitive qualities. When he sought the truth, he became an obedient and monotheist servant of unparalleled faith, sincerity, determination, courage, trust, forbearance, oft returning, surrender and unflinching submission.

He is an exemplary son who did not say even Uff…to his father despite his harshness and injustice. His father was amongst those who fueled the fire against his own son, banished him from his homeland, but Syedna Ibrahim Alayhi as-Salam remained patient, polite and tender hearted. He prayed for his guidance and said Salam to him.

قَالَ سَلٰمٌ عَلَيۡكَ‌ۚ سَاَسۡتَغۡفِرُ لَـكَ رَبِّىۡؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ بِىۡ حَفِيًّا (47)

He said, “Peace on you. I shall seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. He has always been gracious to me. Maryam:47

He set the standard of communal life through his patience and forgiveness. Though his nation rejected him he earnestly wished for their guidance. He convinced them through logical reasoning and soft speech. He proved to them that Allah’s support comes to those who are loyal to Him but they kept repelling him. Regardless of this all, he continued his duas in their favour. Moreover, he exemplified the Islamic responsibility of being generous to the guests and strangers by extending his food and company.

He had been an excellent husband too. He trained his family to be obedient servants of Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala as well. It is the bountiful gift of this training that all the prophets are from his progeny. Tawakkul of Syeda Hajra Alayhi as-Salam in Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala is the outcome of this very training. She brought up Syedna Ismaeel Alayhi as-Salam in the same pattern and made him an exemplary son for the world.

He is an unmatched father too. The strongest pull of the world is the sincere love which enables us to sacrifice. Imagine the intensity of love he had for his son which nurtured the unwavering obedience in him for Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala.

Prime quality of Syedna Ibrahim Alayhi as-Salam is that he is a man of Ihsan and Qalbe Saleem: a Qalb of ultimate tawakkul, love for Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala Tauheed and readiness to serve Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala in any form and shape.
